The patient takes a hydrogel pill
Once in the stomach, the pill swells rapidly (in under 30 minutes) to the size of a large marshmallow
The swollen pill remains in the stomach for a pre-determined number of days. The system is tuneable, with OMP able to create formulations offering a range of 1–7 days of gastro-retention
The swollen gel then breaks down and is excreted naturally
